Ever since I started my gardening career, St. Patrick's Day has always been represented a pivitol time in the growing year. It is the day that I put my first seed in the ground...the beginning of the new season. My grandfather lived by the schedule of planting peas on St. Paddy's and harvesting on July 4th. It is something I have faithfully adhered to for many years and has always been successful. Working with raised beds really helps too, because the drainage is so good that even in a very rainy spring your little pea roots won't rot in standing water. Tomorrow is St. Patrick's Day, so get those peas in the ground and look forward to a colorful fresh harvest on America's birthday...just a little over three months away!
